CLHEI is a non-governmental organization bridging the gap between immediate Humanitarian Relief and long-term Sustainable Development. We work hand-in-hand with marginalized populations in Benue, Nasarawa, and across Nigeria.

Our Core Thematic Areas

We employ a multi-sectoral approach to address the complex challenges facing Nigeria’s most vulnerable. From emergency response to policy advocacy, our interventions are designed for lasting systemic change.

Humanitarian Response

When crisis strikes, CLHEI is there. We provide immediate, life-saving assistance—including emergency food, shelter, and protection—to families displaced by conflict or natural disasters. Our work extends beyond immediate relief, as we stand with communities to rebuild their livelihoods and social structures, ensuring they emerge stronger and more resilient than before.

Health

We believe healthy families are the foundation of strong communities. Our health programs focus on enhancing access to quality healthcare for all, especially women and children. This includes tackling malnutrition, providing vital mental health and psychosocial support, and ensuring mothers and newborns receive the care they need to survive and thrive.

Peace & Security

Peace is more than the absence of conflict; it is the presence of justice and understanding. CLHEI builds peace from the ground up by facilitating community dialogues, transforming disputes into opportunities for understanding, and countering violent extremism. We work to address the root causes of violence, creating safe, inclusive communities where everyone feels secure.

Environment & Climate Change

Vulnerable communities are on the front lines of the climate crisis, and we are helping them fight back. Our programs promote climate-resilient solutions, including sustainable water management, biodiversity conservation, and the adoption of clean energy. By empowering communities to protect their environment, we are securing a more sustainable future for generations to come.

Education

Education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and building brighter futures. We work to eliminate barriers to learning, creating safe and inclusive educational environments for all children, with a special focus on girls. Even in emergencies, our "Education-in-Emergencies" programs ensure that children can continue to learn and develop the skills they need to thrive.

Governance

Strong communities need strong, accountable leadership. Our governance programs build democracy from the ground up by supporting communities to participate in the decisions that affect their lives. We champion the inclusion of women and youth in leadership roles and advocate for policies that ensure transparency and work for everyone.

Agriculture

A sustainable livelihood begins with food security. We empower smallholder farmers with the tools and training needed for climate-resilient agriculture, promoting techniques that increase crop yields and protect the environment. By strengthening local food systems, we are helping families build a stable foundation for economic prosperity.

Yes, we are registered with the CAC (CAC/IT/NO 41255) and hold Special Consultative Status with the United Nations ECOSOC and Observer Status with the UNFCCC.

We adhere to strict financial standards. Over 90% of all funds go directly to Program Implementation in the field, with audited reports available annually.
Our primary interventions are in the North Central and North East regions of Nigeria, specifically Benue, Adamawa, Nasarawa, and the FCT.
